I Massellini

The Massellini are decorated until they virtually take on the appearance of tapestries, mysterious and fascinating Oriental rugs, so much so that at first glance they really do seem to consist of a fabric applied to a wooden support.

The material-based works of Elena Pinna are infused with history and traditions and the colours and odours of the earth.

Philosophy and Technique

Elena uses firm and tenacious acrylic tempera applied liberally by hand, which she ‘dares’ to match to create unusual combinations, always delicate and harmonious, at times strongly reminiscent of old Persian, Turkish or Caucasian rugs, coloured with herbal juices or with batik fabrics.

Above all what springs to mind is Textile Art or Fiber Art, which asserted itself as a pictorial art long ago (starting in 1962 at international forums at the Lausanne Tapestry Biennials) in extremely diverse forms and manners.

The works of Elena Pinna recall weft threads extended between frames or on underlying wooden supports or even threads that relax and tense three-dimensionally over other objects.
